National Library of Addictions Recognizes Healthy Malden ’s Contributions to Community with “Model Program” Award
Brookline, MA (December 22, 2009) – The National Library of Addictions (NLA), a not-for-profit, intellectual gathering place for health care professionals and community members who are working to overcome the effects of addictions, formally recognized Healthy Malden’s contributions to its community over the last 16 years with the “Model Program” Award. Healthy Malden ’s mission was to improve the health of the community by fostering citizen and agency collaboration aimed at priority community health issues within the City of Malden.
“The National Library of Addictions formally recognizes Healthy Malden’s commitment to the City of Malden over the years,” said NLA Founder Dr. Punyamurtula S. Kishore. “Communities are enriched by the resources provided by organizations like Healthy Malden.”
The NLA honors Healthy Malden’s Executive Director Kevin Duffy, Business Manager Kristine Williams and long-time Program Director Jan Mannone with its “Model Program” Award. Mannone has dedicated 13 years of service to the organization and is regarded as one of the area’s strongest advocates for youth substance abuse prevention and treatment. Upon joining Healthy Malden over a decade ago, she began work with parents and teachers on the Malden School-Linked Services Program. Through her work alongside the school system, she taught parents and teachers about the warning signs of substance abuse and where to seek help to prevent and treat the drug problems facing the community’s youth.
“Jan has spent many years teaching our community’s youth and parents about the dangers and warning signs of addictions,” said Executive Director Kevin Duffy. “We can only hope that her work and Healthy Malden’s involvement has made for a better community and that today’s youth understand the imperative of a substance-free future.”
