National Library of Addictions Launches Mother Power Organization with Inaugural Brunch

Boston, MA—October 26th, 2009— The National Library of Addictions (NLA), an intellectual gathering place for health care professionals and community members working to overcome the effects of addictions, launched its Mother Power Organization with an inaugural brunch on Saturday, October 24th, at the Taj Boston Hotel. The Mother Power Organization will serve as both a support group for mothers struggling with the loss of a child, the incarceration of a child and the overall grief of their children falling victim to substance abuse, as well as an activist group that organizes the community to vie for change.

“It is sometimes easy to overlook the pain and suffering mothers endure silently when their children fall victim to substance and alcohol abuse,” said NLA Founder Dr. Punyamurtula S. Kishore. “The Mother Power Organization will provide an avenue for mothers to become empowered in helping their children find a life of sobriety. In the saddest cases, it will also help mothers find comfort and belonging when substance abuse claims their children.”

At the inaugural brunch, the mothers met with NLA Ambassadors, a group of recovering substance abuse addicts, to share their stories and create a support system with each other. The mothers also discussed their desired goals for the organization and designed an action plan for recruiting other mothers with children battling drugs and alcohol within their communities.

The Mother Power Organization also welcomed key Preventive Medicine Associates (PMA) staff and providers to the meeting to discuss ideas and goals with the mothers. PMA is a group of family practices located throughout Massachusetts focused on bringing the best care to their patients and community.
